Covid Socio-economic Response
UNDP is leveraging its extensive presence and partnerships in India and drawing on its global network and expertise to support the response to COVID-19. The aim is to support the Government of India and State Governments to strengthen and accelerate a whole of society approach and response, working in collaboration with UN, private sector, and civil society partners. In support of efforts led by the Government of India and State Governments, UNDP’s objective is to help (i) prepare for and protect people from the pandemic and its impacts; (ii) respond to the outbreak; and (iii) recover from the economic and social impacts in the months to come. Drawing on its longstanding experience in supporting governance institutions, responding to crises and building resilience, UNDP’s Inclusive Growth Unit is leveraging its programming and capacities to expand access to livelihood opportunities. The key focus area is to facilitate access to local skilling and job opportunities for vulnerable women and youth in collaboration with private sector associations and micro, small and medium enterprises. To mitigate the adverse socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis, UNDP launched immediate livelihood reconstruction response measures in 56 districts in 9 states for more than 2,00,000 households. We worked to ensure more than 30,000 individuals from vulnerable communities have access to social protection schemes. We successfully built capacities and made fi¬nance and markets accessible for nearly 1,30,000 households. More than 1,00,000 women and youth gained information on career guidance and job readiness through the online platform and facilitated job to 6,000 individuals. 3,000 MSMEs have been supported by setting up helpdesks and facilitated in reviving their businesses. UNDP is also designing sustainable and inclusive pathways to create momentum for green recovery, green ¬financing, expand access to green jobs and livelihoods, and increase the use of clean energy solutions.
